Born and raised in the Netherlands, Bernardo Guillermo moved to New York in 1996 to study philosophy, art history, and the visual arts, at Sarah Lawrence College, where he obtained a BA in Liberal Arts. Afterwards, Guillermo attended the Industrial Design program at Pratt Institute and was the recipient of a merit-based scholarship, as well as a nominee for the prestigious ‘Rowena Reed Kostellow Design Award‘.
His work was selected for exhibition at Brooklyn Designs, at Design Within Reach: MODERN + DESIGN + FUNCTION, Character NY, and Partners & Spade, New York. Art 16, Olympia, and PM/AM Gallery, in London.
His Work has been featured in Wallpaper Magazine, ArtReview UK, and The World of Interiors.
Together with Jude Heslin Di Leo, Guillermo founded BEAR & LION, a sustainable furniture design practice located in the Navy Yard area of Brooklyn, from 2007-2011.
In London, where he has been based since 2011, Guillermo has continued to run a design studio, under his own name, which specializes in bespoke furniture and architectural design.
Guillermo’s Melissa Table is currently shortlisted in the upcoming International Design & Architecture Awards in London.
