Curved Raw Steel Staircase
Part of a refurbishment of a former garage space, this staircase was custom designed to connect the main floor to a glass roofed hallway above, connecting the upper floors.
The 10 mm gauge steel structural balustrades, were fabricated by shipping industry specialists. These sculptural forms create the stringers and envelopes for the open 6 mm gauge treads, each one of which are welded directly to them. The steel was left as its raw natural finish. The welds are exposed and even dents and scratches from the manufacturing are left visible, celebrating the process of its fabrication, and the raw material that allows such a unique and complex shape to have a physical form.
