The Muse Bench

Conceived to complement the meditative setting of an art gallery, the Muse Series stands out by its subtly complex yet unified approach to form and function. As functional objects, the works respond to practical needs along with an elegance of form which manages to be both beautiful and gently discreet.

Through the harmony of its visual, structural, and functional elements, the Muse Bench most clearly exemplifies the aesthetic values that define the Muse Series. Constructed from solid timber, the subtle V shaped profile that runs through the bench is not just a visual motif, but also plays a key structural role. This V-profile makes the overall structure highly rigid, by cancelling out any deflection inherent in the material, in a way similar to how an I-beam functions. This allows for a clean and open design requiring no further cross support at the bottom. It also makes for a remarkably comfortable sitting space on an otherwise hard surface.
